Why God made California

obviously one day
God decided to either
punish us all
or have a good laugh
so God made California

a place where people go to dream
about being rich and famous
in a land part playground
part penitentiary filled with
answered prayers and plaintive wails

and as God sat back and laughed
granting favors to some
and frustrating the rest
our punishment is to
chase fantasy and fame

so this must be how
God shows he loves us
by letting us know
some will have every dream answered
and others will move to Montana
