Stripped

Empowering if we do it ourselves
Embarrassing if someone does it to us
At some point all of us
Will either strip or be stripped

Whether it is of rank or power
Class or position
On stage or off
Everyone eventually will be exposed

Either we willingly disrobe
Or we are forced somehow to go bare
The act lessens us
Even if it is by our own choice

At the hands of others
It is the ultimate form of violation
And humiliation as well
Yet when it happens no one ever looks away
